Antique Japanese Silver Raden Three-Sword Katana Kake with Drawer – Meiji Period

An exceptionally refined original Japanese sword stand from the Meiji period (1868–1912), designed to display up to three katana or wakizashi. Crafted from wood and finished with traditional urushi lacquer, this impressive katana kake is richly decorated with shimmering silver-toned raden the celebrated Japanese technique of mother-of-pearl inlay.

The detailed decoration depicts elegant figures and classical landscapes, combined with auspicious Japanese motifs including pine, bamboo and plum, collectively known as Shōchikubai. These three plants carry deep symbolic meaning within Japanese culture:

    Pine represents longevity and steadfastness.
    Bamboo symbolizes resilience and strength.
Plum blossom represents renewal and perseverance.

Delicate seasonal grasses and flowers complete the composition, giving the stand a refined and harmonious appearance. The iridescent mother-of-pearl catches the light beautifully, creating silver, blue and pearl-like reflections against the deep lacquered surface.

The stand is designed to accommodate three Japanese swords and incorporates a practical built-in drawer. This can be used to store small sword accessories, maintenance items, cloths or other treasured objects. The combination of elaborate decoration and functional design elevates this piece far above an ordinary sword stand.

During the Meiji period, Japanese decorative craftsmanship reached an extraordinary level of sophistication. This katana kake reflects that artistic excellence, combining traditional lacquerwork, meaningful symbolism and refined interior presentation.

A highly decorative and collectible piece, ideal for presenting an important set of Japanese swords or as an independent work of Meiji-period art.
