Antique Japanese Three Sword Katana Kake with Raden Meiji Period

An exceptionally refined Japanese sword stand dating from the Meiji period (1868–1912), designed to display up to three katana or wakizashi. Crafted from wood and finished in deep, lustrous lacquer, this elegant katana kake is richly decorated with shimmering raden traditional mother of pearl inlay.

The detailed decoration depicts classical architectural landscapes populated by figures and birds. Each element contributes to a beautifully balanced narrative scene inspired by traditional East Asian art. The iridescent mother-of-pearl catches the light from different angles, creating a luxurious contrast against the dark lacquered surface.

Unlike more conventional Japanese sword stands, this example features an integrated drawer for storing small accessories, such as sword maintenance items, mekugi, cloths or other treasured objects. This combination of functionality and elaborate craftsmanship places the piece in a more exclusive and highly collectible category.

Created during the Meiji period an era renowned for its exceptional decorative arts this kake demonstrates the remarkable skill of Japanese lacquer and inlay craftsmen. Its stable and well-balanced construction makes it suitable for displaying three Japanese swords, while its artistic quality allows it to stand proudly as a decorative object in its own right.

An impressive collector’s piece for enthusiasts of Nihontō, samurai culture, Japanese lacquerware and refined Meiji-period art.
