    About this Piece

    Nanbokuchō Tachi Bishū Osafune Hidemitsu

Shitoku Era (1384–1387) NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon
Kyodai Originals is proud to present an authentic Nanbokuchō-period tachi signed:

    備州長船秀光 – Bishū Osafune Hidemitsu
Dated to the Shitoku era (1384–1387)

This remarkable blade originates from the legendary Osafune school of Bizen Province, one of the most celebrated swordmaking centers in Japanese history.

The Nanbokuchō period is renowned among collectors for its powerful sugata and dynamic workmanship swords forged during a time of intense warfare and artistic innovation.

With a nagasa of 69.1 cm and elegant tachi curvature (1.6 cm sori), this blade retains beautiful classical proportions. It represents the refined yet martial character for which late 14th-century Bizen blades are highly prized.

Osafune smiths of this era were heirs to the traditions of Nagamitsu and Kagemitsu, producing blades distinguished by:

    Vibrant midare and chōji-based hamon

    Rich, luminous Bizen jihada

Strong steel presence with elegant hataraki

    Excellent cutting geometry

The signature “Bishū Osafune Hidemitsu” firmly places the sword within this prestigious lineage.

    Certification
✔ NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Tōken (2025)
✔ Original Okayama Prefecture registration (1951)
✔ Signed and dated Nanbokuchō blade

Tokubetsu Hozon status confirms this blade’s authenticity, quality, and cultural importance. Blades from the Shitoku era with clear signature and NBTHK certification are increasingly rare and highly sought after by serious collectors.
