Admiral Sawamoto Yorio(15. Nov.1886-29. Jun. 1965) is an officer of the Great Japanese Imperial Navy.
He graduated Japanese Navy University as its 36th graduates. Nagumo Tadakazu Admiral, Shimizu Mitsumi Vice Admiral,
Tsukahara Nishizo admiral, and Arisugawanomiya Tanehitoou second lieutenant are his classmates.
He graduated the Navy school as the 2nd Royal Award student, the 1st was Sato Ichiro from the same hometown.
Sawamoto has also graduated the Navy gunnery school. When he was a lieutenant commander, he had been to Britain for 2 years.
He successfully held his posts as a captain of the light cruiser “Tenryu”, heavy cruiser “Takao”, and the battleship “Hyuga”,
and was inaugurated as an Under Secretary of the Navy of Oikawa Koshiro First Lord of Admiralty on the 4th of April, 1941.
Sawamoto was against the U.S-Japan war, so when Tojo Cabinet was formed, Oikawa Koshiro recommended Toyota Fukutake in army as the First Lord of Admiralty,
but he was famous for hating navy, so army refused it. Sawamoto thought it was an opportunity, and he hoped that the Cabinet to be fallen down,
but it didn’t go as he thought. In the end, Shimada Santaro assumed First Lord of Admiralty. Sawamoto refused to cooperate in starting war between U.S,
and he intended that he wanted to quit the position, however, Shimada offered a post as General in navy or the chief commander of alliance armed forces,
he decided not to refuse. Later he regretted this occasion a lot. After that, he remained to be the Under Secretary,
and he got the position of General to be the military counselor and the Under Secretary of the Navy acting director on the 1st of March, 1944.
And on the 17th of July, 1944, he held the post of Commander-in-Chief of Kure Chinjufu, and in next year on the 1st of May,
he became an Military Counselor, and the war ended. After the war, he held the position of Defense Agency’s Advisor on the 24th of September, 1955.
